Mark Astley

Appointed Head of NAFN Data and Intelligence Services in June 2014, Mark has been with the organisation since its inception in 1997. He has been a key player in the development of innovative services and has worked collaboratively to develop a wide range of data sharing initiatives. Mark is currently working with the Cabinet Officer, Home Office, DWP and other agencies to develop and deliver a range of centralised services. Mark has a background in prevention and detection of fraud, fraud investigation and delivery of IT business solutions. Based in Tameside, Greater Manchester, Mark leads a team of intelligence officers delivering services nationally to local authorities, housing associations and other organisations.

  • Outlining the progress of the NAFN Data & Intelligence service in pre-empting fraud and error risks across local authorities
  • Putting in place the latest technology to tackle fraud and exploring opportunities arising from big data and advanced analytics
  • Realising significant benefits for residents through technology by alleviating the cost of fraud and error
  • Discussing new technology available to detect fraud activity such as eProcurement platforms
  • Examining how to address critical loss of revenue and driving savings across the sector
